Hi. This sounds like it might be what you're thinking of, but we always
called it Placek.
1/2 cup warm water
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp flour
3 packages of dry yeast
--combine these ingredients, and leave to rise
1 cup milk
1/2 lb. butter
--warm in small pot
6 eggs, well beaten
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. orange flavoring
--beat these ingredients
--add the milk mixture and the yeast mixture from above
--add 2 more cups of flour
--beat well
--add another 4-5 cups of flour, a cup of raisins,
and beat it some more
--Turn into a large bowl and cover and let rise for about an hour
--Knead and cut into 4 parts: put each into a loaf pan
--Let rise one more hour (at halfway, brush with slightly beaten egg
white, and sprinkle with crumb mixture (below))
--Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes
crumb mixture:
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 lb. butter
1 tsp. grated orange rind
1/2 cup bread crumbs
This came from my Great-Grandma and has been enjoyed for several years
in our Polish family.
